Hot Success for 1940's themed Weekend in Tibbenham 12th to 14th July 2013

The annual 1940’s weekend was held at The Greyhound on the 12th – 14th July hosted by managers Rob Smith and Fawnda Mathison. Enthusiasts travelling across the county to support this fabulous charity event in aide of lifelong support to forces and their families including ‘Help For Hero’s’ and ‘SSAFA’.

Guest of Honour, Mr Scott Culver from New Jersey, America made the trip over to the UK (Once again, please see Special Events) to research for his forthcoming book ‘Daylight Raiders’ which is dedicated to the airmen of the 703rd Bombardment Squadron of the 445th Group. Scott’s late father, Henry (Hank) J. Culver was based at Tibenham Airfield during WW11. Hank was one of the few lucky airmen who survived his full tour of 30 missions flying as a ball turret and waist gunner in a B24 Liberator heavy bomber.

A full weekend of entertainment was laid on for visitors to enjoy with a fantastic turnout of military vehicles, an authentic 1940’s tea room, a living history display, period model aircraft, a free swing dance lesson, a fashion show, Hair Raid Shelter 40’s hair stylists and all topped off with a good dose of 1940’s music!

Saturday evening continued with a great many more visitors arriving, many of whom had come in either period or allied uniform dress code. DJ Texas Tommy and AV8 had the dance floor full and the all-day bar was very well received. Jade Grand gave the evening a really authentic feel with her sensational singing performances.
